Our Capabilities
Image analysis
The Laboratory offers a comprehensive Image Analysis capability which is linked to a full range of image capture techniques. Images analysed are generally produced using Optical Microscopy, Electron Microscopy, TEM, SSIMS etc… or just captured with a camera fitted with a normal lens. The methodology can also be applied to user-supplied images.
Methods
Typical applications include:
- Particle size and shape analysis
- Fibre length and diameter analysis
- Nearest neighbour analysis ( dispersion state)
- Colour or greyness ( whiteness) analysis
- Porosity
- Numbers of particles present summed over a large area
- Fibre or feature orientation (e.g. in a composite)
Applications of the analysis
- Quantitative data can be obtained and correlated with processing conditions or with mechanical properties to optimise plant operation.
- Rates of processes can be measured using sequences of images captured.
- Automated QA & QC tests have been developed for at-line analysis
- Screens have been developed for High Throughput Experimentation (HTE)
- Colour and opacity of liquids and solids have been measured
- Morphology differences in blends can be quantified
The MSG advantage
- MSG has a wide range of image capture capabilities available in-house.
- Samples submitted can be subjected to a wide range of sample preparation techniques.
- Teams within MSG are experienced at working closely with each other on customer projects
- The image analysis software is flexible enough that it can be configured to measure each individual customer's required parameters.
- MSG has strong links with instrument manufacturers to help implement process control solutions.
